This public bath has the unique honor of being located in the basement of Kyoto Tower, right in front of Kyoto Station. Daiyokujō literally means large bathtub. Since the mid-sixties travelers arriving to Kyoto after a long trip have used this bath house to freshen up. Since many travelers arrive by overnight bus this sentō opens early.
Every morning at 7:00 the doors open, and last admittance is at 20:00. Kyoto Tower Daiyokujō is definitely not the most modern of bath houses. Its main feature is the large hot water bath, or perhaps pool would be a better word. It lacks a sauna, jet baths or even a cold bath. It appears there used to be a sauna that was removed during the renovation of he women’s baths.
